Miles McKenna is a queer and trans activist. He transitioned online in front of a million people. This is his survival guide.

When Miles came out on his YouTube channel in 2015—then transitioned online in 2017—his aim was to help other teens navigate their identities and take charge of their own coming-out stories. From that experience comes Out!, the ultimate coming-out survival guide for anyone questioning or queer.

Out! covers questions big and small: How to stay safe when coming out in a toxic environment, what to do if you don’t feel comfortable with your birth name, what style haircut best suits your identity, and how to find your chosen family. Miles offers readers coming-out conversation starters (“Can I have the bathroom pass? Also, the correct pronouns?”), a recipe for a very gay cake, and a guide to mastering the masculine haircut. You’ll find resources for finding a gender therapist, pointers for being a queer ally, and Miles’s Ten Commandments (#5: You are valid in your identity, even if you’re the only one who can define it).

If you’re a person seeking answers, look no further! This book is for you. And remember: Whoever you are, you are worth fighting for.

Inspirational Story + How-To Guide + ART!

Where was this book 10 years ago? This is everything a younger me needed and wanted. It's primarily about the author's journey as a queer trans guy, but I think it could help and inspire anyone who is struggling to find themselves and live their best life. It is definitely inspiring me. In addition to his story, it's full of practical information and advice on a range of topics, from coming out to your grandparents to feeling comfortable with fashion to mental health. The tone is also full of humor and energy, without losing sight of how difficult being different can be, which makes the book so much easier to read. Not to mention, every page is gorgeous.

The Best LGBTQ+ Book Out There.

I've watched Miles' videos since 2015, 2 years prior to his coming out. 2015 was by definition the worst year of my life, but bit-by-bit he made it better. One day in 2018, I was watching his 16 minute video titled "I AM MILES". It was about his transitioning process on HRT. I was watching it with an old friend, and I paused it halfway. I told her I think I'm trans. Now in 2020, I am trans and I go by my chosen name and pronouns and I have Miles to thank for all of it. Reading this book that was full of advice, I wish I had it back then and I'm so grateful others will have it now. From the advice for panic attacks, the "gaylist" to the personal experiences he shared, the good and bad, this was a phenomenal book. It balanced everything Miles Mckenna is. I encourage parents to buy this for their LGBTQ+ child, or even for children to share it with their parents to help them understand.

Thank You Miles!

I have watch you since you cut your hair for the first time and I actually guessed that your were trans before you came out. I love your book and your awesome! Every lgbt+ person or lgbt+ Ally needs to read this amazing artisty vibe of a book! I love you miles and thank you for making something so beautiful and wonderful and queer.

10/10

I bought this book for my son and he loves it!

I love this book.

When it came out for pre-order I bugged my transphobic mother for it tell she gave in. I read it non-stop. I definitely recommended it 🏳️🌈 💙.

Practically perfect in every way.

Best book ever. Outstanding. Many pictures to keep my attention and a plethora of relatable things to make you feel better.

Never received

I love Miles but I never received the book....little bit sad about that. I pre-ordered it in April of 2019 and now it is almost 2021.

Love

Love it so,so much

Fantastic Read

This is an absolutely amazing book. Miles has managed to keep the balance of being informative and getting across his personality and managed to stay clear of making it another typical YouTuber book. I've found it incredibly helpful. I myself am cis, however my partner is ftm, so it was really helpful to actually read an insight into everything. Thank you Miles.
